Can liquids (such as a beverage you drink) get stuck in the lower esophagus and not empty into the stomach?

Sometimes I'll drink a cold drink and not feel it go into my stomach. Then moments later, I feel a cool trickling sensation in my lower esophagus like the liquid is finally going into my stomach. I then feel the coolness in my stomach (the feeling I was supposed to feel immediately upon swallowing). Is the liquid getting stuck in the lower esophagus? The only way I can see it happening is if there was some sort of air bubble keeping the liquid from flowing..is there any other explanation?
